I have a 1956 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5 hp outboard that is in good condition and runs fine but the gear case oil is milky. The owners manual does not address this. Is this a problem? Is a repair necessary? Are the parts available?

Also how much and what kind of oil should I add to the gas?

Thanks

milky means its getting water/moisture in the lower unit you need to replace the the seals.

Hello milky oil is usually water mixed with oil. the ultra hpf or xr gear lube is desighned to compensate for water in oil and is what I use. the seals can be checked by pressure test or vacuum test to 15lbs. if oil is left to sit water will separate and go to bottom of gearcase. on small leaks check drain plug seals or propshaft seals for fishing line.

Hello on early model small engines mix 2 cycle oil at 25 to 1 as these engines had bronze bushings instead of main needle bearings on crank
